On the banks of river Guadaira, the ancient city of Alcalá de Guadaira lies. Just 12 km away from Seville, on top of a soft hill between the lowland and the valley of the river Guadalquvir and it played a strategic role throughout history. Different cultures settled in this region, but the deepest legacy is the Arabic one, as the name of the city and the river indicates; Qalat Chabir and Wadi Ayra. On top of the hill is the castle, watching over the city, while on the lower part is the river, which seems to want to embrace the city. The riverbank is ideal for walking and spending the day among nature. The paths go along the river, among shades of leafy trees and the coolness of the river, from where you can see the flour watermills, which supplied bread to the city of Seville until not very long ago. White ducks, geese, gold fishes and beautiful birds provide the vibrant touch to this environment. The park of Oromana, littered with umbrella pines, is a peaceful place to take a break in the café in hotel Oromana. Alcala de Guadaira is not just its riverbank, but offers many more possibilities to visit monuments and enjoy gastronomic and cultural places. Alcala de Guadaira belongs to the route, between Seville and Granada, called the Legacy of al-Andalus after the American writer Washington Irving. We assure you that Alcalá will surprise you!
