🔊🎶🗣️ Heading south from Lyon to continue the @ValleeDeLaGastronomie, we entered the #Ardèche department of France, where we were scheduled to do another olive oil tasting. However, because it was such a nice day (and footage of me spoonfeeding myself isn’t so engaging), we did this degustation in the medieval village of #SaintMontan, known for its restored 14th-century castle, the eponymous #ChateauDeSaintMontan. Built on top of the highest rock in the area, the château can be seen for miles, and we took the scenic route to get there on foot, through the old medieval village of now cafes and art studios, and eventually up to the castle gate where we met the man who spearheaded the restoration, inadvertently becoming mayor. His “Les Amis de Saint Montan” association now collects admission and cosplay fees from those who want to dress up in #medieval clothes for pictures in the fort. Proceeds go to further restoration. Coincidentally, a young village actress was on hand, cosplaying in a medieval dress, and she escorted us through the castle to the roof for the view.
