Integrating SWI into your existing curriculum can be a challenge. This webinar, presented by Jennifer Constantine and Kara Lee, will help you do just that. While we firmly believe that using a Structured Word Inquiry approach results in the best literacy outcomes for students, we know that teachers are constrained by the curriculum they are mandated to teach. This session will focus on ways to weave SWI into your existing instructional routines and materials. Course Description Most teachers are mandated to follow specific reading curriculums. Yet, most teachers see that those curriculums do not always provide everything needed to help students experience success in literacy. Understanding that teachers are constrained by these mandates, we offer ways to integrate SWI into existing daily routines so that all students can be reached in a meaningful way. Our goal is to empower teachers to make instructional decisions that will reveal the true nature of the writing system, which will foster understanding, which in turn will motivate teachers and students alike to learn more. Attendees will leave this session with tools and strategies that can be integrated into existing curriculums tomorrow. The session will address the following topics: Understand how to integrate SWI tools and practices into your existing curriculum(s). Help students learn to read and spell high-frequency words when a memorization strategy has not worked. Learn how to leverage students’ understanding of spoken language to reveal the logic of the writing system. Analyze what’s being asked of students in common assessment versus what the curriculum covers. Course Outcome Educators will learn how to integrate the tools and strategies of Structured Word Inquiry into their existing reading curriculums.
