Live, Love & Farm documents all the activities that is done by VRUTTA farm. This 950 sqft home is the first cob house project being constructed in Kolar district of Karnataka. This video focuses on doing soil testing, making of cob mix and walls. We decided to go with cob compared to other techniques as cob is one of the easiest and most sustainable building techniques, it doesn't need skilled masons and we can use locally available materials. A proper balance between clay, sand and straw mixture has to be achieved for the cob mix to work wonders! Too much sand crumbles the wall and too much clay causes cracks. One of the simplest test to identify clay-sand ratio is shown in the video. It is called Bottle test. We also did some sample test batches to identify perfect soil. Fibres helps to hold the cob together and provides tensile strength. We have used rice straw but any other types of fibre like ragi straw, coconut fibre etc can be used. Once the mix is ready let it ferment for 2-3days. Then roll it into small balls and start cobbing it from the plinth. Note that while cobbing we should not construct more that 1-1.5 feet of wall else the walls starts to bulge and fall. Happy Building :) credits: editing : https://m.facebook.com/mediaofpng/?ts... also subscribe to - / @geek_tech Music by eoun (https://eoun.com) #earthbuilding #sustainablearchitecture #earthhome #offgrid #greenarchitecture #tinyhouse #cobwalls #soil #straw #cobmix #soiltesting #bottletesting #vruttafarms #livelove&farm #vrutta #gida #gidalivingcolours
