The idea of the Interslavic language is simple: that all Slavs can understand one another without translation. It is not a new language, but a bridge between the old and the new. The roots of Interslavic are found in old Slavic languages — Old Church Slavonic and Proto-Slavic. The language was developed in the 2000s by linguists and enthusiasts from different countries. Today, people from Poland, Czechia, Slovakia, Serbia, Russia, and Ukraine can speak and understand each other through it. It has two writing systems — Latin and Cyrillic. On the internet, in videos and forums, Interslavic helps people from different countries to communicate without translation. It is a language of peace, a bridge between brothers and sisters from across the Slavic world. Listen how it sounds: “I speak softly, for you, so that you can understand me.” 🐴 The Donkey and the Beans One winter day, a certain peasant was returning home from the market, and he almost froze from the cold. But luckily, along the road on his way, he found a tavern in a somewhat larger village. It was already noon, and he wanted to eat in the tavern and warm himself up. He tied his donkey in front of the tavern and went inside. There he saw many people from that village, warming themselves around the fireplace — but for him, there was no place to sit. So he came up with a funny way to make those men, who were sitting close to the fire, stand up and go outside. He stood near the door and shouted loudly to the innkeeper: — Innkeeper! Bring me one portion of beans, and another portion bring to my donkey, who is tied in front of the tavern, outside! The gathered villagers, surprised, pricked up their ears, and one of them said to him: — Really? A donkey would eat beans?! — Yes, my donkey eats beans. If you don’t believe me, go with the innkeeper and see for yourselves. The innkeeper brought him a portion of beans and started to carry the other portion to the donkey... and then all those villagers went with him to see such a strange thing. When they went outside, the peasant quickly came to the fireplace, sat down in the place they had left, and began to warm himself. After some time, the villagers returned, laughing and saying: — Your donkey didn’t want to eat the beans, that’s funny! To which the peasant, calmly warming himself, replied: — My donkey may not have wanted the beans, but he helped me find a seat by the fire. I hope you liked the story.
