In 2025, while exploring Gran Canaria with my local friend, we randomly came across a banana plantation. The local farmers invited us in and showed us how they work and how bananas are grown. It was a completely unplanned moment — very random, but very cool. Normally, tourists don’t get access to places like this. What we learned is that after producing fruit, the banana tree’s "mother" stem withers and dies. But underground, the same root system sends up new shoots that grow into new banana trees. These new shoots grow right next to the old tree, so it looks like they grow in pairs.
