House Bill 2914 would give families an option to monitor loved ones but some Valley facilities are raising privacy concerns. Kathy Waldon of Buckeye said she is not ready to place her 87-year-old husband Will, who has dementia, in a care home, but said she would want the option to monitor him remotely when the time comes. “I walk every morning from six to seven and I want to know what’s going on — what he’s doing, did he fall, is he just watching television,” Waldon said. “It’s important. We’re not invading anyone’s privacy by any means. As far as I’m concerned, I need to know how well he’s being cared for.” Paul Plante, whose wife is in an assisted living facility, said cameras are already in use where she lives. “Where my wife is right now, they have cameras in their rooms automatically, and I am very glad about that,” Plante said. Debbie Gross, owner of Home Instead and a longtime home care provider, said dementia patients typically require more care than one person can provide.
