Dean of the University of Austin, Texas, Ben Crocker, and Institute of Public Affairs’ Executive Director, Scott Hargreaves, discuss the role of universities today and whether good citizenship should have a greater focus. In this discussion, Crocker shares his insights on how universities are failing to serve the national interest in both Australia, the United States and across the West; and what higher education should look if it sought to prepare students to be good citizens of the country they belong to. Crocker and Hargreaves unpack the benefits of true liberal arts education, great books and the entrepreneurial skills are being built into UATX. They also examine falling standards of education in Australia and around the world. Benjamin Crocker is the Dean of the University of Austin in Texas. Benjamin grew up in north Queensland was an inaugural Ramsay Centre for Western Civilisation scholar to Washington, D.C. His columns have been published by The Spectator, Australia’s Quadrant magazine and The Federalist.
