Ramanujan is indubitably the treasure of the entire world. If you blink, you could miss the childhood home, of arguably the most intuitive mathematician of of all time. He personifies the amalgam of spirituality and mathematics in a uniquely Indian way, informed by a lived and timeless culture spanning thousands of years of hoary civilizational history. Those who understand his brand of mathematics and there are just a handful in the world (his notebooks are still being processed) are in awe of his discoveries. Lesser mortals like me who know but a smattering of mathematics, experience an emotion for which a suitable word does not exist. It is an admixture of wonder, searing humility, gobsmacked incredulity, all burnished with an atavistic reverence for the kind of intellect that he possessed. One senses that it is extraordinarily special, and yet one knows not what it is. The closest analogue would be Arthur Clarke's aphorism: "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic". This sentiment has only deepened after visiting his childhood home, which is veritably a shrine to Mathematics.
