Wide shot of crowd STORYLINE Shiite Muslims in Iraq commemorated the first anniversary of the death of one of the country's most important Muslim clerics on Thursday, just over a year after he was assassinated. Ayatollah Mohammed Baqir al-Hakim was killed along with at least 85 others on 29 August 2003 when a massive car bomb exploded outside the Imam Ali Mosque in the Iraqi city of Najaf. Heavy fighting between militants and American forces in recent weeks has prevented the commemoration taking place until now. Marchers marking al-Hakim's death walked through the streets of Najaf holding banners reading: "No to sectarianism, yes to unity". Baqir al-Hakim was a known proponent of Muslim unity.
