PNR HIDDEN ROLLING STOCKS SERIES (PART 2: IC-888) The PNR IC-888 Inspection Car was built by Tokyu Car Corporation (now part of Japan Transport Engineering Company or J-TREC) and holds the distinction of being the oldest Diesel Rail Car (DRC) in PNR's fleet. Originally designated as a JMC-300, it was later reconfigured with the setup (IC-888-TA-4-MCBP-4). The IC-888 was specifically used for line inspections, served as an official train for past PNR general managers, and facilitated special travel along the railway network. Its last known operations on the mainline were in 2006-2007, no longer self-propelled and being hauled by a locomotive. However, its service ended in 2007 due to theft of electrical and air brake components, particularly the MCBP-4. It was moved to the Caloocan Workshop for storage in 2008. In December 2009, the MCBP-4 was scrapped as part of a mass rolling stock disposal. In 2024, as part of the plan for rolling stock migration to the south, several rolling stocks stored at the Caloocan Workshop were relocated to the Tutuban Yard. However, the IC-888 and its associated TA-5 remain in Caloocan, marked as unserviceable, with no plans for revival nor transfer to the southern line of PNR. last Sighting of IC-888 being hauled on the mainline: • solis where the place of gossip • Tren + Inuman A big thanks to Atty. Ces Lauta, Usec. Jeremy Regino, and Ma’am Joseline Geronimo for the opportunity to document this historic railcar.
