Together We Win - UnLocal's Queer Immigrant Justice Project ("QIJP")

In this beautiful video, we feature our Queer Immigrant Justice Project (QIJP) and celebrating the work of Supervising Attorney Michael Younker and Education and Outreach Coordinator Dennise Hernandez, along with five of the project’s ambassadors. QIJP addresses the reality that LGBTQIA immigrants, particularly Black and brown immigrants, experience disproportionately high levels of discrimination and violence on an interpersonal and state level by providing holistic legal services and community education. As QIJP’s supervising attorney, Michael represents LGBTQIA immigrants in immigration court and at the asylum office and connects them to health care, housing, therapy, transitioning support, and more. As Education and Outreach Coordinator, Dennise educates the public about the rights of LGBTQIA immigrants, the patterns of discrimination and violence they face, changing immigration policies, and their impact on the queer immigrant community. Through QIJP, UnLocal builds partnerships with community-based organizations, houses of worship, schools, community centers, and LGBTQIA-serving agencies. QIJP also elevates the voices of queer immigrants, providing them with leadership and storytelling opportunities. Last year, QIJP clients and community members organized Pride Around the World in collaboration with UnLocal to celebrate each other’s stories and share their talents. QIJP exists to help queer immigrants live identity-affirming lives, and achieve their goals.
