“Stargazers get a backstage pass to the glamour of movie-making on the Hollywood Pictures Backlot, where showbiz-themed attractions celebrate America’s ongoing love affair with the movies. Fun and fantasy reign as you walk down the glittering streets of Hollywood Boulevard lined with the Art Deco and Spanish-style facades that recreate details reminiscent of classic Los Angeles architectural landmarks. You can imagine yourself as a movie starlet, character voice or an extra having lunch on the set of an ABC soap opera. “The Grand Entrance looks like a colossal Cecil B. DeMille production with gigantic golden elephant statues flanking a classic studio archway. The inspiration actually dates back to 1917 when D.W. Griffith built a colossal set for his second feature, “Intolerance” right in the middle of Hollywood Boulevard. Amazingly, the “Babylonian” palace courtyard set covered several blocks along the busy boulevard for many years. The Hollywood Pictures Backlot gate also features polychrome hieroglyphics and Arabic ornamental light fixtures. “Step through the enormous ornate Studio gates and find yourself on a palm-lined boulevard of dreams. Even the street glitters underfoot: just like the real Hollywood Boulevard, the asphalt has a glittering, star-like sparkle. Klieg lights and cameras stand on tower-scaffolding behind facades recreating such Art Deco and Spanish architectural landmarks as the Pantages Theater and the former Bullock's Wilshire department store. Like any set, it looks real only from the front or through a camera lens. Behind the sets are shops, outdoor performance areas, soundstages, theaters and TV studios housing major attractions and restaurants.” —Paraphrased from the 2001 Disneyland Resort Media Sourcebook --- This opening day Disney's California Adventure 1.0 loop was a labor of love to get even an approximate reconstruction - we don't have a full reference recording from the era, so we scoured YouTube for old home videos to extract mere seconds to minutes of tracks to ensure we had the right versions and spacing between tracks. We did have a few tracklists posted on Magic Music and Kirsten's Disney Music Loops site from long ago to check order against. In the end, we did pretty well. The only track for which we lack a sample is the opening track, Hooray for Hollywood, which someone on MouseBits asserted is the same as in the Sunshine Plaza loop.
