Swing of the 50s and 60s @ Teatro Dal Verme What is the connection between The Beatles, irish music, big bands, rock bands and bowed string instruments? In 2016, after the great success of the previous shows, a new swing event took place in Milan at Teatro Dal Verme. In this year the event was dedicated to 50s and 60s swing music, exploring its connection to the more modern music that became popular during those years. The show hosted the usual Paolo Tomelleri Big Band with a new section of bowed string instruments, two pianist and two drums. Like every year, guest stars from all over the world and different group of dancers. “For Once in My Life” is a swing song written by Ron Miller and Orlando Murden and performed for the first time in 1965. Although it was written as a slow ballad, the song became famous in the Stevie Wonder up-tempo arrangement recorded a couple of years later. A lot of singers performed the piece, such as Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Dean Martin and Michael Bublè. The version performed during the event is the one by Frank Sinatra, sang as an example of “white” music by Italian singer Celeste Castelnuovo. Paolo Tomelleri Big Band feat.
