As this machine is a solid deck mower, we'll start by installing the u-shaped bracket into which the clutch cable will be threaded. The top hanger bolt onto which the clutch bracket mounts is integral to this cable bracket and it goes on first. If you've got a twin rail mower, you won't have the cable bracket (or rather, it will be welded to the back rail); you'll be using two regular bolts to mount your clutch bracket instead. The cable bracket is installed using the integral bolt and a second, smaller bolt, star washer, and nut. Secure this small bolt first as it's easiest to position the clutch bracket without any washers or nuts in place on the hanger bolt. The clutch adjustment bracket can now be bolted to the side of the mower. We'll worry about adjusting the bracket's position when it comes time to tension the chains. Leave the two nuts finger tight for now. We removed the outer sprocket of the intermediate clutch assembly to reduce weight and make the bracket easier to manage during installation. This sprocket can now be re-installed. Align the internal roll pin with the slot in the clutch bracket shaft and slide it home. The clutch operating bolt is now inserted through a washer and then through the centre of the intermediate clutch assembly. On the back side, this bolt passes through a hole in the clutch operating lever. The intermediate clutch works when the outer sprocket engages the cork adhered to the inner half of the clutch; to idle, the outer sprocket needs to be able to slide away from the cork along the shaft of the operating bolt. In other words, leave a small gap between the large outer sprocket and the cork.
