Epic Spearfishing For Red Roman In False Bay

In this video, I’m out spearfishing for Red Roman. We started the dive in the shallows where there was some swell and current, hoping to spot a galjoen or two. I did come across one, but unfortunately didn’t manage to get a shot off—and to make matters worse, I didn’t capture it on camera either. After a few dives in the shallows, we decided to push out into deeper water to look for Red Roman. Out in the deeper water, we found an amazing reef with plenty of red roman, and everyone managed to land some solid-sized fish. I shot a nice Red Roman myself, measuring in at 40 cm. While diving, I also came across a copper steenbras. It was undersized, so I left it, but it was incredible to see one of that size given how endangered they are. We even spotted a couple of crayfish along the reef, but since it wasn’t crayfish season, they were left untouched.
