Kirsteen Shields presents “The SAFER model” at the 2025 Scotland’s Land Reform Futures International Symposium. She discusses the history and drivers of the SAFER model and dismantles misunderstandings about it. This talk is part of the panel “How do alternative land governance models work in other countries?” chaired by James MacKessack-Leitch. Bio: Kirsteen Shields is Senior Lecturer in International Land and Food Systems at the RDSVS, University of Edinburgh. Research and teaching encompasses land governance, human rights, agriculture, food systems, and the environment. The 2025 Scotland’s Land Reform Futures International Symposium was hosted in Aberdeen, Scotland by the James Hutton Institute on 11th and 12th November, with funding from the Scottish Government.
