Batmaloo is the corrupt form of word 'batmoul', made up of two words 'batte' means cooked rice and 'moul' means father in Kashmiri. So the name of the locality means father of cooked rice or father who provides cooked rice. The reffrence to the father made in the name of the locality is to a Muslim Sufi saint who lived in the same locality somewhat four hundred years back. His name was Sheikh Davood (R.A). He was the son of a Kashmiri Hindu, who had recently reverted to Islam. At that time the estate he lived in was known as Ramlanna. He used to live a practical life. He was God fearing and used to worship with all the faith but at the same time used to do farming in his fields near his locality. So he was a farmer saint. He used to abstain from all kinds of greeds and its said that he used to wash the hoofs of his bulls when they crossed the boundaries of other fields to his own field so that the soil clung to their hoofs may not get into his own. He also abstained himself from the worldy pleasures so that they might not divert his attention from God. So he did not eat meat, fish, egg and other kind of such things. It is said that he used to keep cooked rice on the roadside in some pot, so that some hungry passerby might eat it. So for this reason he got the name of 'batmoul'.
