#QuickTip - Stopping that pesky Smoke Detector beep. Does your smoke detector beep? Most common solution is to change the battery to a new one. Does it continue to beep even after you've just changed a new battery? We have another easy solution for you. 1. Remove the smoke detector from the ceiling mount. If it's hard wired, unplug the wiring. 2. Then remove the battery, 3. Press/hold onto the "test" button for about 15-30 seconds. This will release any stored energy that may be in the capacitor(s). 4. Reinstall the battery, plug the smoke detector back in and reinstall it to the ceiling mount. The beep should go away at that point and you can go back to relaxation and peace.
