My FIRST TIME Inside Imam Hussain Shrine in Karbala Iraq!

Iraq Travel Vlog Episode 01 - Today’s video kicks off a series which will document my trip to Iraq in March 2023. Iraq until recently has only been in the news due to wars being waged on its soil but I’ve travelled as part of a group to visit the historic and holy shrines located in this ancient land. I went with the excellent Toronto Ziyarat Group have been taking pilgrims from North America for many years. I would highly recommend them if you're looking to visit the holy sites in Iraq. The first part of the series we will be from Karbala where I visited the holy shrine of Imam Hussain, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad. Karbala is the spot where Imam Hussain and many of his family were ambushed and martyred in battle against the tyrant of their time. Over the years as people came to pay their respects to the Imam at the shrine, the city grew and now many muslims around the world regard Karbala as one of the most important Islamic sites alongside Makkah and Madinah. It is also home to the world's largest pilgrimage of over 23 million people who visit the city during Arbae’en commemorations. Note that the interior footage was from very early morning hours approx. 1:00AM local time when the crowds were much thinner at the shrine. Once you enter the city you’re engulfed in an atmosphere of respect, reverence and such calmness that’s hard to explain. Sometimes people will tell you these folks are praying to or worshipping the graves at the shrines, that is false. Pilgrims that come to Karbala among other sites in Iraq make prayers requesting the Imams to intercede on their behalf with God to answer their prayers.
