But the conventions of our monotheistic religious background makes it difficult to understand the contours of authentic Roman belief and all too often their religion is viewed as inauthentic. One reason that it remains difficult to fully grasp roman religion is that they lacked a central holy text akin to the Bible or Quran - so this history documentary looks at the Sibylline Books, the closest thing the Romans had to a universally acknowledged divinely inspired text.
