Post and core is a prosthetic device that is utilized when there is not enough tooth structure to restore the tooth with a filling or an artificial crown. So we have a post which looks like a pin. It can be a metallic pin or a composite pin, that is put inside the tooth and the structure is built over the tooth. This is done when there is extensive damage to the tooth because of the tooth decay or when there is a root canal procedure that is done. So we need to put these posts inside the tooth so that we can build a core so that we can develop and artificial crown on top of it. So this crown is called a post and core crown. This procedure is done when there’s inadequate tooth structure for restoration.
