On March 9th, 2022, I made a trip towards Laurinburg, NC to follow the Laurinburg & Southern Railroad (LRS) working local customers around the Laurinburg area. LRS was using two former Southern Railway MP15s and a former Missouri Pacific SW7 (now yard slug). That morning, LRS ran north from the yard near 11th Street to a mill near the CSX diamond. Later on, they ran south of town to the Murphy Brown feed mill and Pilkington glass manufacturing. Later that afternoon and evening I spent time on CSX's Wilmington Subdivision between Hamlet, Pembroke, and Wilmington (the straightest tangent of railroad in North America - 78.9 miles). During that time, an eastbound (timetable northbound) military ammunition train came through with Union Pacific run-through power - heading to the Military Ocean Terminal Sunny Point near Wilmington. CSX train symbols in this video: CSX B427 - south/eastbound rock loads CSX S890 - eastbound military ammunition CSX Q583 - east/northbound manifest CSX Q652 - south/westbound manifest CSX G648 - east/northbound grain empties
