King Charles III together with Queen Camilla and the Princess Royal attended the 2023 Braemar Gathering Highland Games in Scotland. This was on Saturday 2nd September 2023 and marked the first time His Majesty Charles III attended as King, maintaining a tradition of the Royal family attending the Braemar Gathering every year. The Royal family were driven to the Royal box and greeted by distinguished guests including Sandy Manson, The Lord-Lieutenant of Aberdeenshire, His Grace the Duke of Fife, Philip Farquharson 17th Laird of Invercauld, Capt. Mark Nicolson Honorary Vice Patron of the Braemar Royal Highland Games Society and Peter Fraser, President of the Society. Queen Camilla and the Princess Royal were then presented with flowers by local children, after which they watch as the massed Pipes and Drums marched in playing Scotland the Brave, led by Leading Drum Major Rowland Stuart. Behind leading Drum Major Roland Stuart are Drum Majors Walter Davidson, Neil Jamieson, Ronnie Rennie, Robb Cumming, Phillip Michie, Derek Dean and Kenny Forbes. The bands taking part were Ballater & District Pipe Band, Huntly & District Pipe Band, Lonach Pipe Band, Kintore Pipe Band, Ellon & District RBL Pipe Band, Fraserburgh R.B.L Pipe Band, Gordonstoun Pipe Band, Perth & District Pipe Band, and Newtonhill Pipe Band. The Games are held at The Princess Royal and Duke of Fife Memorial Park, a short distance from the royals' summer residence Balmoral. The Games have been run in its present form since 1832, and the always held on the first Saturday of September. Queen Victoria first attended the gathering in 1848 and since then the reigning monarch and other members of the Royal Family have regularly visited. Sorry for the cut with the massed bands but we received multiple copyright claims that were made against the bands for playing Scotland the Brave.
