How can urban planning best address children mobility and autonomy? How can we create better conditions of traffic safety in the Greek City? Garyfallia Katsavounidou, Assistant Professor in the Department of Spatial Planning and Development Engineering at the Polytechnic School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, discusses examples and possible initiatives for a better and more inclusive urban environment. Garyfallia Katsavounidou studied Architecture at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (SMArchS) and received her Ph.D. from the University of Thessaly. Her dissertation title was “Child, City, Play; A Polyphonic Biography”. She has written the book “Invisible Parentheses; 27 Cities in Thessaloniki” and translated Jan Gehl’s book “Life Between Buildings”. She has taught Urban Design at the Department of Architecture and the Department of Regional Planning & Development of A.U.Th., as an Adjunct Lecturer, and also served as a Teaching Assistant to Professor Elias Zenghelis at the University of Thessaly.
