The Porta Bike finally goes back together. This odd little bike went back together with out many snags. the bottom bracket adjusting cone was so grooved out that there was a sweet spot of about a fraction of a degree where it would work properly. it might have been possible to machine that cone out, but I don't have a relationship with a machine shop around here, and I certainly don't have a lathe so until one of those two factors changes I'll be on the lookout for a replacement. The problem is, I've never seen a bottom bracket of the style or sizing standard. The sizing standard seems to follow Italian bottom bracket shells, 36 mm inner diameter 70 mm length, but the difference is this one is unthreaded. the cups press in like an Ashtabula type BB, and the crankset itself is mysteriously a 1960's version of the modern two piece cranks we've been using since 2005. the internet has never heard of anything like this of course, so if anybody knows what to call this bottom bracket or who manufactured it, I'd love a jumping-off point for my search. Everything else went together more or less as expected. The stem is tweaked in a couple directions, did my best to straighten before this video was even in a conceptual phase, but I'll also be on the lookout for one of those. This bike lives at the coffee shop across the street, so future access won't be a problem. Owner has been well advised.
