Tree leaves are biological waste that could be disposed of safely. On the other hand, burning fallen leaves may negatively affect the balance of the nitrogen-oxygen ratio, since the air in cities is polluted with carbon monoxide and other destructive gases that harm nature, animals, and people. 2018. Valentin Frechka, a 16-year-old Ukrainian student, decided to study alternative sources of cellulose and thereby mitigate the deforestation problem. He examined grass and straw to see how much cellulose they contained and whether it could be extracted. Valentin began to observe fallen leaves and wondered why these natural materials could not be a source of cellulose. The young Ukrainian scientist believed leaf fibers could be obtained from leaves, but nothing would work for him because leaves decompose. So, in early 2018, he conducted long experiments in the school's laboratory and finally obtained suitable prototypes for the first time. During the next two years, he presented his invention worldwide and was greatly appreciated. After a few more years of hard work and patience, Valentin with his partner Alexander, founded a company. Started as a research project, Releaf Paper has grown in 5 years to become a dynamic international startup with offices in Paris and Kyiv and global ambitions. It is an innovative company that has succeeded in turning fallen leaves into a valuable raw material for the paper and packaging industry. Combining science and entrepreneurial passion, a young team has successfully provided a sustainable source of raw materials for the paper and packaging industry by disposing of fallen leaves.
