This is a prototype TEST of my Direct Solar Power oven - battery optional. Camp stove version • Solar Electric COOKER Stove testing - DIY ... - In this video I will show you my PV2L Solar Electric Oven prototype operating and explain what PV To Load (PV2L) is. We will also prepare some food to test in the oven - "solar hot dogs". Here I am documenting one of the 5 solar electric cooking prototypes in my solar workshop. I used a broken (not working, recycled) common toaster oven chassis (aka metal enclosure) to build my own custom DC oven, which adapts the PV to Load model (Direct DC solar power - batteries and charge controller optional). Even though battery power is an option, I prefer to run straight off the solar panels. PV2L enables efficient solar electric cooking, the cleanest and most efficient way to cook with solar electric power. A quick explanation of what PV to Load means: Traditionally, the solar panels would charge batteries through a charge controller. The power then comes out of the batteries into an appliance, or into an inverter and then an appliance. PV to Load simply means the solar array is powering the load directly. This greatly reduces complexity of the system, and efficiency can increase. Solar panels are simply a power source, and to me it makes perfect sense to have appliances that can be powered by solar panels directly. But those appliances are few and far between. This lack of options motivates me to invent and build my own prototypes and PV2L cooking systems. This oven and the solar electric camp stove I showed previously, are both PV to Load appliances. Of course they could always run off of a battery bank if needed, but I don't have to cycle my Lithium batteries and work my charge controller hard if the sun is shining bright. In addition, they can be used as a solar array "dump load" to burn off excess solar power when the batteries are full. PV to Load promotes less dependency / less wear and tear on expensive discrete components such as charge controllers, batteries, inverters. It enables increased efficiency, has little or no electronic components to fail, lower system cost, better mobility of the cooking system, more flexibility, and lower cost of operation. And it also saves cooking fuel costs.
