In this 4K ukulele tutorial you'll learn how to play one of the easiest chords on the uke. Free Chord Chart at www.ukelikethepros.com/p/chords The A7 chord of the ukulele is easy to play because it only requires one finger. Yet, this chord shape becomes more difficult as you slide it up and down the neck where it becomes a bar chord. But let's not get ahead of ourselves yet. Whenever you see a chord on the ukulele that says "7" recognize that it will have 4 different notes. Much different than a triad, such as G, C, Aminor, etc. that only have 3 notes. Seventh chords produce a great bluesy/jazzy sound. The 4 notes that make up the A7 chord on the uke are A - C# - E - G. These notes come right from the A major scale. The A major scale is A - B - C# - D - E - F# - G# - A. You'll notice that the notes in the A7 chord related to the major scale is the root (A), the 3rd (C#), the 5th (E), and the b7 (G). The last note, b7 means flat 7th degree. In the A major scale the 7th degree is G#, but in the A7 chord you are playing a G note. So you take the 7th degree (G#) and you flat it. Flat means move it down a 1/2 step which is 1 fret on the ukulele and play G. Once you master the A7 chord you can slide it up and down the neck once you understand where the root of the chord is. In this case the root in on the 1st string, which is A. If you remember that you can easily find any other 7th chord up the ukulele neck using the 1st string to identify the new name of the chord. I'll help you understand this concept of going up and down the neck by showing you the B7, C7, C#7, D7, and D#7. If you memorize this chord shape and how to slide it up and down the uke neck, you can play any 7th chord that shows up on any of your songs.
