LISTEN TO PART 1 HERE: • The Best of Gothic Metal: A sub-genre... Part 2 of the gothic metal "subgenre sampler playlist". This video features another 25 songs meant to highlight the variety of the gothic metal genre, while also acting as a channel sampler. For context, I feel I have to add some disclaimers: A: My choices are of course biased and tastes are subjective, that being said not every band or artist featured is a personal favorite, I'm also trying to showcase bands that I think represent a part of the gothic metal subgenre very well. If you don't see a band or artist that you think would better highlight the genre, there are some reasons for that (like maybe I'm not as big of a fan, or I didn't include them for fear of copyright claims). But by all means, please comment below who you would like to see showcased in a playlist like this. B: I intended to keep this playlist confined to what I would define as gothic metal, which is largely influenced by what music publications and the internet defined as gothic metal when I first got into the genre back in 2007. This includes acts that would nowadays probably be labeled as only symphonic metal, but I think that's wrong, so I put my own interpretation of genre for each song featured (really more for the album, with a few exceptions). C. As stated before, I really wanted to show the diversity in the genre, not only in the sound, but also where bands come from and language use. So aside from the bands that hail from the countries you most expect (Norway, Netherlands, Germany), I also made a point to include bands from the Americas and Eastern Europe. This by no means encompasses the entirety of the sound, but I think I made a cohesive playlist for newcomers and veterans of the genre alike. NOTES: Some tracks are slightly edited for time and flow. These include tracks 2, 4, 11, and 15, whereas track 23 has been abridged to shorten the song by nearly four minutes. If you're so inclined, please listen to the full song.
