This video is about starting Dahlia tubers early in Spring, in small 2-3L pots for planting out in your flowers beds later, so that they get a running start. Dahlias are tender, and planting them out into cold soil at best sets them back (makes them grow slowly) and at worst kills them. If they sprout outdoors and there is a frost, the shoots will die, wasting a lot of energy. Dahlia tubers want to be planted out into warm soil, which means at least 10C, but 15C is better. Therefore, by potting them up early and storing them in a sunny, frost-free place, they can get a racing start to the season when you plant them out later.
