I cannot state emphatically enough how much I love singing Fr. Weber's vernacular chants (at least whenever the Latin originals aren't being sung). Today I was able to duet with Lizzy Eighmy at the 11:30 Mass, (St. Augustine Cathedral, Kalamazoo, MI) and we chanted antiphonally on the verses. The effect is quite lovely (although I do apologize to Lizzy, since I thought we would both be properly in frame!). Her voice is so gorgeous, and it is a pleasure chanting with her. All I can say is, PLEASE, if you do nothing else, *chant communion antiphons at the beginning of communion, before a hymn!* It really isn't that hard, and it fosters such a prayerful atmosphere. Many people are able to receive and pray before other music starts, which means you then have a group of people ready to sing once the hymn starts (but more importantly: a significant portion of the congregation will have had the time to receive and pray in peace, before other music starts!).
