The idea behind #CognitiveEconomics is to try and understand human choice, starting from basic cognitive forces such as selective #memory and selective #attention, and then study how choices emerge from these forces, explains Nicola Gennaioli, the Fondazione Romea and Enrica Invernizzi Chair in #BehavioralEconomics and Finance in a video filmed to mark the launch of the Chair. Consider the case of discrimination: classical economics views it as a consequence of distaste for a social group. Cognitive economic theory argues that, even without a conscious prejudice, selective memory can be the cause of discrimination on its own since it makes people hold incorrect and long-lasting stereotypes based on scant evidence.
