Early childhood caries (ECC) is a widespread, multifactorial disease. Victor Lee and Dr. Vivianne Cruz de Jesus discuss their research on possible causes and treatment of this disease. Victor Lee is a research assistant in the Dr. Robert Schroth lab, at the University of Manitoba. He works in early childhood oral health research. After receiving his BSc in microbiology and immunology at Dalhousie University, he completed an MSc in the Department of Community Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba. His presentation highlights his Master's thesis, a study that is titled "Analysis of Nutritional Status and Oral Veillonella in Caries-Free and Caries-Affected Preschool Children in Manitoba". Dr. Vivianne Cruz de Jesus is an internationally trained dentist from Brazil and a postdoctoral research fellow at Dr. Robert Schroth and Dr. Prashen Chelikani labs. She works in early childhood oral health research with a focus on the oral microbiome. She received her Dental degree at the Federal University of Bahia, in Brazil, in 2015 and her PhD in Oral Biology at the University of Manitoba, last year. In this presentation, she discusses recent research conducted on the effect of Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) on the oral microbiome.
