In this episode of the 305 Small Block Chevy build, I’m bringing you a full build update as we make some serious progress toward the 2026 Hot Rod Power Tour. We install the double roller timing chain, timing cover, pointer, and harmonic balancer, then verify true TDC using a degree wheel and dial indicator. Everything checked out spot-on. After that, I dive into DIY gasket matching the Trick Flow Super 23 175cc heads. This was my first time gasket matching cylinder heads, so I walk through: • Why I did it • How much material I removed (and what I didn’t touch) • The tools I used (yes, even Harbor Freight stuff) • Grit progression from carbide burrs all the way to 600-grit wet sanding • How to avoid removing too much near the pushrod pinch This build is all about maximizing airflow for a long-runner TPI setup without ruining velocity — and doing it yourself while saving serious money. If you’re building a 305 SBC, running TPI, or just want real-world DIY engine content without the fluff, this one’s for you. 👉 More to come as this engine gets buttoned up and closer to firing.
