Flip Flops are warm weather fashion staples. They seem like the ultimate carefree footwear, but the cost to your foot health is not worth it. Flip Flops force your feet into a disadvantageous gait sequence, when worn long enough, can create significant foot problems for walking barefoot and wearing all other forms of foot wear. Excessive Toe Grip is required to keep the flip flop adhered to your feet, pressing on the toe in a flexed position instead of extension, is not only strengthening dysfunction, but building the wrong muscles and their sequence in the gait cycle. When you walk barefoot, is there a point in which you toe grip during your steps?! Definitely not! The best movement is the primal movement, meaning, natural/naked, anything that you were or use, should not impede in your natural movement, and when we speak about a healthy foot, we are talking about the ability of the bare foot. Watch the video as I explain the how the gait is compromised and the solution or compromise that I believe is available as an alternative to flip flops / mules or any footwear that is creating a maladjusted gait. I also tough upon my opinion on Towel Curling exercise, that so many Physical Therapists and podiatrists find so "effective" in fixing flat feet and how it has effected my feet.
