The HARD way up Waun Fach | Wild Weather continues in the Black Mountains

Hiking Waun Fach in the Black Mountains on a windy day as part of our Brecon Beacons mountain challenge. In this episode we head out to climb Waun Fach, the highest summit in the eastern side of the Brecon Beacons. Strong winds were forecast across the Black Mountains, but with time running out in the challenge we couldn’t wait for a better day. To stay out of the worst of the wind we planned a route that would keep us sheltered in the forestry before joining the ridge higher up. On the map it looked like a good idea… but in reality it meant fighting our way through fallen trees, thick undergrowth, and a section of forest that clearly doesn’t see many walkers. Once we reached the ridge the wind was at our backs, but still strong enough to make every step feel exposed. After bagging the first summit we found a small patch of trees for a sheltered lunch — and a moment to question whether pushing on was the right call. But with only a week left in the challenge, turning back wasn’t really an option. This video is part of our 34-peak Brecon Beacons challenge.
