Your angle grinder can be a huge help in the workshop, but it can also become a potential safety hazard. Don't worry though, with these helpful tips, we'll help you operate your angle grinder safely and effectively! WEAR EAR, EYE, AND FACE PROTECTION (0:34) Your angle grinder uses a powerful motor to rotate the grinding wheel at speeds of up to 11,000 RPM. This will send the material removed from your workplace flying at an incredibly high speed. That's why it's so critical to protect your ears, eyes, and face from this debris, and from the noise the machine creates. Gloves, long sleeve clothing, and long pants should also be worn to prevent injury. INSPECT YOUR GRINDING WHEEL BEFORE EACH USE (0:49) A damaged or rusted grinding wheel can pose an additional set of problems for you when operating the angle grinder. It's also important to spin your grinding wheel at the speed for which it is rated. If you exceed your wheel's recommended speed, you run the risk of chipping, cracking, or breaking it, which can cause injury (and ruin your grinder). DO NOT REMOVE THE HAND GUARD (1:05) The hand guard on your angle grinder is there for a reason - to protest you and anyone else nearby. DO NOT remove it. USE PROPER TECHNIQUE (1:09) Gripping the grinder firmly with both hands, and keeping your body in a stable position will help prevent injury when the grinder is running. It is also important to secure your work piece with a clamp to prevent it from flying around your work space. You'll want to position the grinder so any debris that is removed from the work pieces moves away from you. USE YOUR ANGLE GRINDER IN A SAFE ENVIRONMENT (1:23) Never operate your angle grinder near any flammable materials or substances. Also, be sure that anyone in the vicinity of your work space knows what you're doing, and is wearing the proper safety gear. HANDLE AND STORE YOUR GRINDER SAFELY (1:28) Always unplug the grinder or remove the battery before changing wheels or performing maintenance. You'll also want to be sure that you give your grinder a quick inspection when the job is complete, so you know it's good to go next time! Storing your angle grinder well out of reach of children to prevent any unnecessary damage or injury. These are our most common angle grinder safety tips, but as always, we want to hear from you!
