In 큰 코, 큰 is from the adjective, 크다 which means big. When an adjective modifies the following noun, we attach -은 to the adjective. If an adjective has a final consonant like 작다 which means small, we put -은. Then it's 작은 The adjective, 크다 has no final consonant. Then it's 큰, not 크은. So, a nose is big is 코가 크다, and a big nose is 큰 코. Then what do you think today's expression, 큰 코 다치다 mean? Korean use the word, big or high nose when they call a prideful person. So, we can use this expression when it hurts such a person's pride. For example, I didn't study for English test since I was so confident. But the test was so difficult and I failed. Then I can say 큰 코 다쳤다. You can also say it when you warn somebody. If your friend is boasting of his strong body so he dresses lightly in cold weather, you can say 그러다가 큰 코 다친다. 그러다가 is a shortened form of 그렇게 하다가. So, it means you keep going on like that, and you'll be in big trouble. Then it's same with 그러다가 너 감기 걸린다. If you don't keep studying Korean hard since people say your Korean is good, 그러다가 큰 코 다쳐요! You won't be able to improve your Korean and you will forget it Or if someone looks down upon you because you're poor at Korean, you can say 그러다가 큰 코 다칩니다 since you will be great at Korean someday and you will amaze the person! - video upload powered by https://www.TunesToTube.com
