Obsessions, or persistent intrusive thoughts, are a significant challenge in disorders like BPD and OCPD. These thoughts heighten anxiety and can lead to impulsive behaviors aimed at easing discomfort. This video examines how obsessions manifest in BPD and OCPD, highlighting their similarities and differences. OCPD is marked by perfectionism, rigid rule-following, and a need for control that disrupts functioning, affecting 2.1% to 7.9% of the population, while BPD impacts 1.6% to 5.9%. Both disorders share tendencies toward rumination and emotional struggles, often linked to early trauma, such as abuse or neglect. However, while individuals with OCPD can suppress emotional expression, those with BPD often struggle to regulate impulses. By understanding these dynamics, we gain insight into treatment approaches and strategies for managing obsessions and emotional regulation. Daniel J.
