TopShot Weed Killer has been discontinued by the manufacturer. For an alternative selective herbicide for use over warm-season grasses only, try Fahrenheit Herbicide: http://bit.ly/2Ownd0f See how to use selective herbicides for post-emergent weed control! In this video, we'll show you how selective herbicides work and how to apply them. Visit our website! https://goo.gl/XU4jU3 Our video on selective & non-selective post-emergents: https://goo.gl/RyMz47 *** Selective herbicides are great to use because they are labeled to kill and control specific weeds. For selective weed control, we recommend Top Shot. Top Shot is a powerful liquid herbicide with a broad label. Most herbicides are formulated for specific grass types and are labeled for specific weeds. Top Shot is great to use because if you don’t know which weed or weeds you have, there’s a good chance that Top Shot is labeled for it. Just make sure to check the label to see if your grass type is listed. Top Shot is used to kill broadleaf weeds such as clover, dandelion, dollarweed, and many others. Check the label on the back of the packaging for the full list of labeled weeds. Top Shot is also very easy to mix and use. Every package comes with two ampules, and each ampule will treat 2,500 square feet. This is a dual action systemic herbicide. That means that it works both through the leaf surface and the roots. So when you apply Top Shot, you’ll spray the leaves of the target weed and around the weed so it will soak in through the roots. Before you start mixing and spraying, take a look around the yard to get an exact idea of what we’re dealing with. You will also want to do an inspection around your yard to make sure all your weeds are accounted for and know what you’re working with. After our inspection of the yard, we’ve noticed that we have a lot of areas of broadleaf weeds popping through the St. Augustine grass. Top Shot will only kill broadleaf weeds, but if you have some weeds at the edge of the tree or near some roots, you’ll want to do a good inspection of the roots or around the base of that tree. If you have any nicks or cuts from a lawnmower or weed eater, spraying Top Shot on those areas COULD make your plant sick. Remember to always follow the label for proper usage and mix rates. With Top Shot you can use a pump sprayer with a one to three gallon capacity. Today, we’re using a one gallon. Notice we have a sticker saying this is for selective herbicides. This is important because we wouldn’t want to maybe cross-contaminate with a non-selective and potentially hurt the yard in the future. We’ll take one ampule and squeeze all of its contents into our sprayer, and then we’ll fill the sprayer to capacity. When you’re spraying weeds, you’ll just want to lightly spray and just get the top of the leaf surface. You will also want to be careful of wind drift to make sure you’re not spraying any other plants. This will take anywhere between 10-14 days to kill the weed. So we’ll come back and check how we did. About ten days later, we returned to the lawn. You can see some of the weeds have started to yellow. In other parts of the yard where we had extensive weeds, they’re yellowing really well but the grass is still vibrant and green. And THAT is why we choose Top Shot. Top Shot is an easy to use product, gives you great results, and it leaves the rest of the turf grass looking great.
