Recently, at the just concluded 13th World Trade Organization Ministerial Conference, Timor-Leste officially became a member of the WTO. Looking back, China was the first country to recognize Timor-Leste's independence and to establish diplomatic relations with the country. Today, Timor-Leste is a partner in the Belt and Road Initiative, looking to boost economic growth and improving connectivity with broader markets.
