Nicholas and Robert: A Wedding at The Plaza Hotel NYC

Nick and Robert were married at The Plaza Hotel in 2018. The Plaza hotel ended up saving our wedding. We were intended to be married at a different venue, which abruptly closed 7 months before our wedding. Even with the bumps in the road, our wedding day was beyond anything we could have imagined. We had been very hands-on, and probably not the traditional Plaza couple. I (Robert) am a Creative Director for a Broadway as agency, so I had designed every detail and Nick helped in the assembly. I called in every favor I could. While we wanted a decadent black tie affair, it was important to us that it also felt like an intimate occasion, having hand picked and re-assembled individual antique lamps as centerpiece vases, polishing antique mirrors, sourcing a neon sign from the West Coast, custom designing pins, glittering champagne bottles, creating an escort mirror, making guest books for every table, and writing notes to each of our guests on the back of their place cards. Our wedding was nothing like we could have pictured at the start of planning, but all of the challenges along the way only brought us closer together and made the day that much more special to us.
