The game of golf owes a lot to this little stretch of East Lothian linksland. Musselburgh Old Links is the oldest remaining golf course in the world. Responsible for the 4 ¼ in size cup we play to, and host to many Open Championships, with its founding members (The Honorable Co. Edinburgh Golfers) funding the Claret Jug for the princely sum of £30 back in 1871 when Young Tom Morris won the championship belt having won three Open’s at Prestwick consecutively previously. Any visit to Musselburgh Old Link is a pilgrimage to the games roots. A nine hole layout, designed to be played with hickory equipment which is available for rent in the pro-shop for a modest cost, we cannot recommend this highly enough for people looking for a short 9 holes at the start or end of a trip! The course sits inside the perimeter of the Musselburgh racecourse, and when played with hickory equipment the bunker placement and challenge of the tee is significantly more meaningful without the latest technology to get the ball in the air and stopping short of the target! It’s an opportunity to forget about your own score, and instead take a step back in time to thank Musselburgh, for without it, golf wouldn’t be the same game we enjoy today. We hope you enjoy the film!
