The Soil Mixing Technology can be used in a wide range of soils, varying from very soft low consistency cohesive soil of up to 15% organic material to non-cohesive soil from loose to medium consistency such as sand and gravel. Although this method can achieve columns of very high strengths and consistency, it is used mostly as a Ground Consolidation method, rather than a foundation method. The biggest Soil Mixing project ever encountered where the conditions were perfectly suitable for this technology was performed in the New Orleans, US after Hurricane Katrina. The project consisted in stabilising over 5 miles of levee employing a total of 8 drill rigs, single and double auger, carrying 5.25 ft diameter mixing tools.
