The use of the Femtosecond Laser for Cataract Surgery has added a greater degree of precision and accuracy to the surgical procedure. Popularly, it is also termed blade-free cataract surgery. Several important steps of the surgery have become automated and computer controlled. A perfectly round and centered capsulorhexis ensures optimal placement and centration of the Intra-ocular lens. Laser assisted nucleotomies reduce the energy subsequently needed for cataract extraction. Also, accurately placed Limbal Relaxing Incisions (LRIs) help to counter pre-existing astigmatism in the patient's eye. This case demonstrates the use of the LENSARTM system for cataract surgery. The initial part of the video shows the view from the computer interface of the femtosecond laser. After the patient is docked, several images of the patient's eye are scanned from various directions to reconstruct an accurate 3-D model of the eye. Subsequently, the laser is fired to create a capsular opening, perform nuclear segmentation, and create corneal incisions. After this initial part of the procedure, the patient is shifted under the operating microscope where the pre-divided cataract pieces are removed with a phaco probe, and an intra-ocular lens implanted
