They are essential in quickly communicating if the current value is on or off target and by how much. For those new to these concepts, backlog hours and work order thresholds are key metrics in monitoring maintenance management performance but the same concept can be used for any metric or KPI that has a target. In this example, I'll demonstrate how to set these thresholds and use card visual reference labels to clearly show the threshold, the variance from the threshold, and also implement red conditional formatting if the value exceeds the threshold. This red conditional formatting creates a stark contrast to the other more muted colours in the dashboard, effectively drawing the reader's attention to the values that require immediate action!
