That afternoon, Belinda stood at Kimbe Wharf in West New Britain. Beside her were two neatly packed bags. The wind was strong and cold. Dark clouds covered Kimbe Bay. Heavy rain soaked the wharf and everyone waiting to board. Belinda was travelling back to Lae, where she worked with the Morobe Mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. But this journey was different. She had come home to ask her father for his blessing to marry the man she loved. She believed in doing things the right way. She believed in respect. She was her father’s daughter. Her father, the late John Kembu, was a respected Seventh-day Adventist pastor in Kimbe. To Belinda, his blessing was more than tradition — it meant everything.
