Invited Lecture / 2020 Annual meeting of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons’ virtual meeting (SAGES) Colorectal strictures are caused by a variety of conditions affecting the large bowel including cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, radiation, diverticulitis, or post-operative in nature. Symptomatic strictures require intervention to relieve the obstructive symptoms. Historically, the majority of patients with colorectal strictures have been treated with either fecal diversion with a stoma or resection. In the last two decades, therapeutic endoscopic interventions have emerged as a viable alternative in a select group of patients with colorectal strictures. In this lecture presented by Professor Maher A. Abbas at the annual meeting of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons’ virtual meeting (SAGES), he discusses all aspects of endoscopic balloon dilation and stricture management. Professor Maher A. Abbas is an internationally renowned therapeutic endoscopist who specializes in the various minimally invasive and endoscopic techniques. He currently cares for local and international patients in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Visit Dr Maher A.
