Inmate murdered less than one day into DUI sentence; family mourns as cellmate is charged

It was supposed to be a short 90-day DUI sentence at the Cumberland County prison, but 41-year-old Erick Gainer of Williamsport never made it home. Gainer was beaten to death less than a day after he was booked, allegedly by his cellmate. "This was just cold-blooded murder," said Gainer's brother, Lonnie Gainer. "He murdered him." Gainer took his last breath on October 23rd. He was a father, son, brother and a beloved bartender known for his kind heart and humor. "He took a kind, gentle soul, Erick wouldn't hurt a fly," Lonnie said.
